The Department of Research and Value Addition was established in 2018. It was formed as a response to fulfilling the mineral Value Addition and Beneficiation thrust for the Government. The major thrust for the Department is to promote the selling of finished mineral products by producers which contain greater value than the raw ores and concentrates.
To facilitate the unlocking of the true mineral value for Zimbabwe's mineral resources through exploitation of various beneficiation and value addition methods.
1. Carrying out applied minerals research and development on mineral beneficiation and value addition.
2. Monitoring and regulating of all mineral related Value Addition establishments which include but not limited to:
Jewellers
Diamond cutters and polishers
Platnum producers
Chrome processors
Lithium
Copper and aluminium traders
Iron and steel
Coal Bed Methane
3. Mineral Value Addition and Beneficiation Policies formulation for the Ministry which include the Minerals Beneficiation and Value Addition Policy, the Diamond Policy and variuos other mineral policies.
